MIDLAND, Texas —
Not everyone in our community is able to simply get up and leave their home to go and get a hot meal whenever they want.
Sometimes home bound seniors have to wait long periods of time before they get a hold of one.
“Many times, homebound seniors are alone insulated; they cannot access community events, and maybe they don't have family that are still remaining that could take them. So, it is important for us not to forget our homebound seniors, and it's important for us not to forget that they still want to be part of our community,” said Tracy Renton, director of development at Senior Life Midland.
Senior Life Midland teamed up with H-E-B to help seniors who can’t participate in Feast of Sharing, so they brought Feast of Sharing to them.
“We all have to come together and take care of one another. H-E-B loves helping out the community. We always join the community. We don't take over community. We're part of the community. Wherever we open up. So, it's really important to do our part and be part to give back to everyone,” said Lee Hoechstetter, store leader for the Wadley HEB in Midland.
But these deliveries are more than just to drop off food to these seniors.
They also act as a means of performing welfare checks on them and also as a way for them to socialize with members of the community that a lot of them helped build.
“Through Meals on Wheels, we have the ability to be able to just let them know they're not forgotten and it's very vital that we make sure that they're safe in their home. These are the seniors in the community that has built Midland to what it is today, and it is our responsibility to make sure that they are taken care of and that they are thought of on a daily basis,” Renton continued.
H-E-B's 22nd Annual Feast of Sharing event will be held this Friday at the Horseshoe from 4pm to 8pm.
