MIDLAND, Texas —
Today at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Midland they held their first ever children’s vendor event.
“So we do something for the children every month and a big motivation behind our Advent vendor event was the children we had so many kids in the church that I knew about that made things and sold things, but those don't really have a space for them to sell those things and what better way to kick off your holiday season than to buy something from one of the children that you see?” said Tracie Greene, director of children's ministries at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Greene says that not only does it help the children learn about giving back to the church and how to work with money, but they also learn about giving back to each other.
“Everybody had their own little thing, there wasn't really an overlap, and so each of the kids not only were they getting people from the church that bought from them, but the kids are buying from each other because that's a good way for them to be able to give something and truly learn what Christmas is all about. You know, it's not about asking for stuff, but what can I give just something little to make someone's day, and that was the big motivation behind most of the kids here," Greene continued.
Greene says that the church was happy to see support not just from the congregation but also outside of it.
“Oh, hearts are bursting wide open. We're just so excited, especially the support that we had from not only the church family here, but from the community. We had quite a few people that were able to see the event and come in and purchase things from the kids,” Greene added.
