ODESSA, Texas —
The Veterans Day ceremony is an annual event that University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) puts on to honor the brave men and women who have served our country.
“Well, the university is a veteran friendly university, we take great pride in supporting our students who are veterans and our families in the community. So, it's a normal part of what we value and prioritize here at the university, it's only fitting that at least once a year we get everybody together,” said Dr. Sandra Woodley, president of UTPB.
The ceremony also featured a veteran guest speaker and musical performances from the UTPB band, who played the songs of all the different branches of the military.
“We love our UTPB student band, they are so talented and how, awesome it was for them to play the military songs for all of the branches. I mean, it just gives you chills, right? I mean, the music was beautiful. The people here celebrating the veterans, I think we're very touched by that,” Dr. Woodley continued.
Dr. Woodley says it’s because of our nation’s veterans that we’re able to enjoy events and performances like the one today and we should always remember that.
“The University of Texas Permian Basin wants to say thank you to all who have served and all who have been in families of people who have served many sacrifices, provide the freedom that we have, and we know that, and we should make sure that we don't ever take that for granted,” Dr. Woodley added.
