West Texas BBQ Bash returns to Monahans

The event raised money for the Monahans Volunteer Fire Department and Monahans Kidzone.

MONAHANS, Texas —

The West Texas BBQ Bash is more than just a chance to find some good barbecue.

It’s an event also meant as a way for the oil and gas industry to support the community.

“It’s a completely free event for the public. It is 100% sponsored by the oil and gas industry. It is a event to help benefit the Monahans Volunteer Fire Department and also to help benefit the Monahans Kidzone,” said Keith Balderaz, marketing coordinator for the West Texas BBQ Bash.

The event has come a long way since its start in 2020.

“So, in our first year, we had around 20 teams and since then we have gained 15 to 25 percent increase in not only sponsorship but competition," Balderaz said. "So, the last four years we had been held at the Ward County Arena and last year we were bursting at the seams.”

While a lot of the companies that take part in the event are normally business competitors on a day-to-day basis, events like this show that everyone can still come together for a good cause.

“It you know, it shows you the strength of the oil and gas industry. It shows you the camaraderie and the strength of the Permian Basin and the people of West Texas who not only in good times, but in bad times to continue to get together and do something for the community and for the betterment of organizations like the Kidszone and the Volunteer Fire Department," said Balderaz.
