ODESSA, Texas — After 58 years in West Texas, Basin Theatre Works sadly announced on Facebook that the Permian Playhouse will be closing
"The beloved local community theatre, renowned for its vibrant performances, diverse array of shows and theatre education programs, will cease operations at the Permian Playhouse effective December 31, 2023," Basin Theatre Works said. "While the building will be closing, our organization and commitment to arts in Odessa will continue."
According to the post, Permian Playhouse has been a cornerstone of artistic expression, providing a stage for countless productions, musicals and theatre classes that have captivated audiences and nurtured local talent. The Playhouse has undergone numerous transformations adapting to the evolving times throughout the decades.
Basin Theatre Works says they have reached challenging crossroads which leads to the decision of closing the Playhouse.
The Basin Theatre Works Board of Directors have tried to reach out for financial support, but due to the "current economic climate", they were not able to find alternatives.
"Pending the physical move of Basin Theatre Works the building will be closed to the public after our last production," the post says.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be showing Dec. 8 to Dec. 10 and Dec. 15 to Dec. 17.
The final curtain call will be Dec. 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to a Facebook post.
