MIDLAND, Texas — Blue green algae blooms have been found at Wadley Barron Park Tuesday, according to the City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department.

Stewart Doreen with the city said these blooms are capable of producing toxins that can affect animals and people.

The City of Midland recommends that individuals should avoid contact with the water. Pets should also be kept away to prevent possible contact from the blooms.

People should not fish near these blooms as their toxins can be created in the fish tissue.

Possible symptoms from the toxic blooms include skin irritation, nausea and respiratory issues.

Doreen said individuals or pets that may have come into contact with these blooms should be cleaned "thoroughly, and contact medical personnel if symptoms occur."

The city is working on a solution to the situation and will provide an update when the water is safe.
