GARDENDALE, Texas — The City of Gardendale is under a boil water notice as of Saturday afternoon.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the city to notify all citizens to boil their water before consumption.
According to the news release, children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are vulnerable to harmful bacteria.
To ensure harmful bacteria is gone, it is advised that water for drinking, cooking or ice making should be boiled and cooled for two minutes to ensure safety.
In lieu of boiling water, the public is able to use "purchased bottled water or obtain water from other suitable sources."
When the city deems the water is no longer contaminated and is safe to use without boiling, they will let residents know that the boil water notice has been lifted.
It is also recommended to let the public know of this notice who may not have received it directly. This includes apartment residents, nursing homes, schools and local businesses.
According to a news release from the Greater Gardendale Water Supply Corporation, a 12-inch water line break on County Road 40 and North County Road 1298 is the reason for the boil water notice.
The City of Gardendale would like to remind the public to boil the water for two minutes prior to consumption. The city also states that they will be unable to take water samples to the lab until Monday. With that being the case, it will be before Tuesday until the city is able to get a good water sample back.
