Boil water notice issued for Gardendale

A power outage at a pump station early Saturday morning is the reason behind the notice.

GARDENDALE, Texas — The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Greater Gardendale Water Supply Corporation to notify its customers to boil their water prior to consumption. 

As of early Saturday afternoon, the city of Gardendale is still under a boil water notice. It was first issued as of 9:02 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to the notice, "due to power outage at our pump station causing our system to drop below the minimum 20 psi water pressure, . Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions."

"To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes," the notice said. "In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes."

Customers will be notified when the water is safe for drinking.
