Victims identified in fatal Bowie Middle School car crash

28-year-old Adan Olivas Hidalgo of Mexico and 41-year-old Maria Belmares Martinez of Idalou, TX. died in the crash.

ODESSA, Texas — NewsWest 9 is learning who died in the fatal Bowie Middle School car crash on Friday, July 12. 28-year-old Adan Olivas Hidalgo of Mexico and 41-year-old Maria Belmares Martinez of Idalou, TX. died in the crash, according to the Odessa Police Department.

According to a media release, at 11:30 p.m., OPD responded to 22nd St. and Golder Ave. because of a major crash.

Once officers arrived and conducted an investigation, the investigation revealed that a black Nissan Altima was going eastbound in the 600 block of W. 22nd St. at a high rate of speed. That is when Hidalgo lost control and crashed into a street sign and north fence of Bowie Middle School. The car continued through the fence and hit the west side of Bowie.

Next of kin have not been notified for Hidalgo and Martinez.

According to OPD, speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the fatal crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
