Cause of fatal crash involving three Buena Vista ISD students released

The car occupied by 18-year-old twins Jaden and Jackie Perkins, and their 16-year-old sister Nautica, was fully engulfed in flames in the head-on collision.

CRANE COUNTY, Texas — Sergeant Steven Blanco with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released the full details Thursday on a Crane County crash Wednesday night that took the life of three Buena Vista ISD students and a 48-year-old Brownfield man.

Gary Don Liles, 48, of Brownfield, driving a GMC Sierra, was going southbound on Farm to Market 1053 and a Jeep Wrangler, carrying the three Buena Vista ISD students, was traveling northbound on FM 1053.

Blanco said then a "head-on collision occurred between these two vehicles."

The Jeep Wrangler carrying the students became fully engulfed in flames and all of them died on scene. According to Blanco, the driver of the Wrangler was 18-year-old Jackie Lee Perkins and the passengers were 18-year-old Jaden Lewis Perkins and a 16-year-old unidentified female.

According to Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, the 16-year-old was identified as Nautica. Griffis also said they are all children of Ector County Patrol Lieutenant Heather Perkins.

Liles was airlifted to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where he later died.

Blanco said the crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
