MIDLAND, Texas — Midland County is getting ready to pass their certification of obligation to fund the new jail.
The price tag for the new Midland jail would cost a whopping $170 million.
At a special meeting Wednesday, the County hired a law firm to help deal with the legal issues involving the jail and to work on notifying everyone.
The County is seeking the certificate, but there is still more work to be done and they plan to take final action on the jail in February 2024.
"We are making plans to do this and issue these," Midland County Commissioner of Precinct 1 Scott Ramsey said. "But there other steps after that. It's not that we are doing it today, it is we intend to do it and there will be a public hearing later on so that everyone can come in and voice their opinion."
Midland County says later on in January is when they will hold the public hearing.
