City of Midland sets the record straight on water adjustment treatment process

The city wants to remind the public that manganese is a natural element and is not detrimental to the public.

MIDLAND, Texas — The City of Midland would like to inform the public Friday on the water treatment process, that has seen an increase in chlorine in the water supply.

According to the city, "due to natural variations in the levels of raw manganese, we have increased the amount of chlorine used in the treatment process."

The city states that manganese is a natural mineral that does not have a detrimental effect on health. The increase in chlorine is a routine measure that maintains the clarity and quality of water for the public.

The City of Midland states that during this time there will be an increase in the smell of chlorine that is completely normal and expected.

The levels of chlorine at this time remains well under the safe and acceptable limits set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The city said it is closely monitoring the system and are committed to providing safe and reliable water to all customers.
