City of Odessa takes first steps towards replacing large stretch of pipeline

The project in total will take around two to three months to design.

ODESSA, Texas — The City of Odessa sewage system has about 500 miles of sewage pipeline stretching through it.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, they took the first steps towards making improvements to it, approving a Professional Service Agreement Contract with Carollo Engineers, Inc. for the design services for the removal and replacement of approximately 1000 linear feet of 24-inch CIP/VCP pipeline within the system.

"They would come in and they would be putting designs together for a contractor to do the contracted work that the city needs done," City of Odessa Assistant Director of Utilities Alex Rowlett said.

The timeline for completion would be around two to three months. The total cost of the contract is around $325,000 against a budget of $513,871.01, saving the city over $130,000.

It’s important work for a city that has had many problems with its sewer systems.

“So this is just for permit preventative maintenance," Rowlett said. Our citizens are our number one priority, so we're trying to get our sewer system to a point where we're happy with it.”

After the design phase is done, the city would then go out for bid to find a contractor to get to work putting the new pipes in place.
