ODESSA, Texas — The town hall meeting at the Bush Convention Center Monday was not the only thing Congressman August Pfluger attended. Congressman Pfluger toured Odessa's West Texas Food Bank as well.
WTFB showed Congressman Pfluger their facility and gave him a behind-the-scenes look at some of their new construction.
The food bank is currently expanding their building to hold more food and feed even more families in the Permian Basin.
Congressman Pfluger is hopeful that this new expansion would better fight some of the food insecurity issues that may have gone unnoticed.
"People don't think about the cost of living in rural areas, but in fact, the price of everything can be a lot more expensive than it can actually in urban areas," Congressman Pfluger said. "So when you've got the economic activity that we have with the oil and gas industry, but also being in a rural area, then those problems tend to compound. Think about kids that are going hungry and I have soft spot in my heart for that issue."
The majority of this expansion project has been funded through private funds and donations.
