MIDLAND, Texas — The Cub Scouts held their spring Cuboree event today at the Horseshoe Arena in Midland.
The event allowed Cub Scouts and their families to come out and do fun activities like riding horses, archery, arts and crafts, and shooting BB guns.
"This is probably the highlight of our spring. We actually get to see more than one unit at a time get to be here, and they get to meet each other and build these friendships; a lot of these friendships last a lifetime. So, for us, that's really rewarding to see in them," said Jim Wyche, program director for Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America.
Cuboree is seen as an event that doesn't just let the scouts and their families have fun, but also as one where they can learn and maybe even experience new things at the same time.
“Probably my favorite thing about the event is seeing the kids do something that they’ve never done before. We’ve had a lot of kids today that have never been on a horse; some of them have never even touched a horse or seen one in person. So that’s very rewarding to see, and that kid comes off the horse with a giant smile on their face because it’s the first time they’ve ever done it, and it was way more impressive and impactful than they thought it’d ever be,” Wyche continued.
Wyche says that they hope the cub scouts see that as they get older and become boy scouts, the events in which they participate also get bigger and better.
