Dallas Mavericks games will not be broadcast on Bally Sports Southwest in 2024-2025 season

DALLAS — Dallas Mavericks games will not be aired on Bally Sports Southwest during the 2024-2025 season -- a reveal first reported by The Athletic. 

The NBA announced Friday that it reached an agreement with Diamond Sports Group, which broadcasts games through Bally's regional sports networks (RSNs) and is currently going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. 

In this agreement, Diamond Sports Group will be able to telecast local games for 13 NBA teams this season as it has in the past. However, the NBA said, two teams opted out of that accord -- the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans.

WFAA reached out to the Dallas Mavericks for comment on their TV broadcast plans going forward, but the team instead referred us to the following statement from the NBA:

“We have reached a new agreement with Diamond Sports Group for the 2024-25 season in which Diamond RSNs will telecast local games for 13 NBA teams. The Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans declined to continue distributing their games on Diamond RSNs and will share more details soon on how to watch games for the upcoming season in their respective markets.  This new agreement is subject to approval by the bankruptcy court.”

For now, it's unclear what the Mavs will do going forward. However, earlier this month, Mavs minority owner Mark Cuban said the front office is looking to "maximize distribution," according to WFAA's partners at the Dallas Business Journal.

One speculation is that the Mavs may join up with the Dallas Stars and its new streaming platform Victory+ to stream games for free. 

During the 2023-2024 NBA season, WFAA’s parent company TEGNA and the Dallas Mavericks partnered to have 10 Mavericks games air on WFAA throughout March and April.
