Driver identified after striking pedestrians in Midland

The incident happened early Monday morning, May 27, around 1:50 a.m. outside La Cantina, located at 200 E. Florida Ave.

MIDLAND, Texas — The driver of an SUV who was involved in a collision with two pedestrians has been identified. The incident happened early Monday morning, May 27, around 1:50 a.m. outside La Cantina, located at 200 E. Florida Ave., according to a press release from the City of Midland. 

The release further stated that a physical altercation began in the northeast corner of the establishment’s parking lot and subsequently moved into the eastbound lanes of East Florida’s 200 block. 

It was there that two pedestrians, present in the outer lane, were hit by a midsize maroon Cadillac SUV. MPD reports indicate that the SUV was traveling eastbound and occupied both lanes of travel at the time of the incident. The driver did not decelerate for the pedestrians and was last seen turning north after the collision before fleeing the scene.

One of the pedestrians incurred life-threatening injuries and was reported to be in critical condition. The second pedestrian was in stable condition. 

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Danny Paul Rodriguez and was located by the MPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
