ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A new member is joining the Ector County Sheriff's team, his name is Ayke. He is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois.

Ayke came in as a donation from the National Police Dog Association after one of their K9's, Boomer, developed a blood parasite and was put down.

For a few months the sheriff's office only had one K9, which could be stressful on the handler on call for 24-hours.

Ayke will help with apprehension and is starting to train now with it comes to finding drugs.

"I think he will suit us real well, he is a very high drive dog has a lot of eagerness, he is very hyper," said  Ector County Lt.Richard Dickson.
