ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — The Ector County Utility Board President Tommy Ervin, who was facing calls to step down the week of Oct. 9, announced in a resignation letter Thursday that he is stepping down.
According to Ervin, District Attorney Dusty Gallivan previously said the reason he wanted Ervin to step down was because he was convicted of a crime when he was 21-years-old.
Below is Ervin's full resignation letter sent to NewsWest 9.
Ervin was issued a letter by Ector County District Attorney Dusty Gallivan on October 9th, telling Ervin that he had ten days to step down from his position at ECUD for having committed a felony crime.
Ervin says that this felony crime was committed back in 1975. After pleading no lo contendre, served less than three years in prison.
According to Ervin, the Ector County DA wanted him to prove that he was officially pardoned for the crime after he was released. Ervin says that he was, in fact, pardoned for the crime back in the 1980's.
Ervin says that he will continue to serve West Odessa in any way that he can.
ECUD Board Meetings normally take place on the second Wednesday of the month at 2:30 at the ECUD building, located on 1039 North Moss Ave in Odessa.
We will continue to update this story with more details on his resignation.
