MIDLAND, Texas — Emily Statton Smith has officially filed to run for Midland ISD School Board, District 4, according to her press release.
In the release, Smith said she plans to address the need for improved mental health resources and evaluations for children with disabilities, ensure accountability for school bond projects and support both students and educators.
“With our recent bond approval, I want to hold our contractors and architects accountable for budgets and timelines while keeping the community informed,” Smith said in the release. “My experience as an attorney has taught me the value of careful planning and financial stewardship. I’m committed to applying those skills to ensure MISD makes the best use of its resources for the benefit of our students.”
According to the release, Smith has a legal background that includes managing multimillion-dollar budgets.

The release also noted that Smith, a Midland High School Class of 2000 graduate, attended Texas A&M University and then earned her law degree from Baylor Law School. She was also involved in the community through her roles on the boards of the Midland Education Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
