More information released on major crash at Loop 250 and North Big Spring Street

A Honda Ridgeline left an elevated roadway of Loop 250 and collided with a Toyota Camry at the intersection of North Big Spring St. and Loop 250 South Service Rd.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland Police Department (MPD) has released more details on a major crash at Loop 250 and North Big Spring St. that occurred Friday morning.

Officers say around 11:49 a.m., a 93-year-old man was driving a 2018 Honda Ridgeline eastbound on Loop 250 as he was approaching the overpass of Big Spring St.

Then, “for an unknown reason, (the vehicle) left the elevated roadway of the loop and fell into the area near the intersection of North Big Spring Street and the Loop 250 South Service Road.”

MPD said the Honda Ridgeline collided with a Toyota Camry that was going southbound on Big Spring St.

The driver of the Camry sustained minor injuries and did not need to be taken to a local hospital.

“It is suspected that the driver of the Honda Ridgeline experienced a medical emergency prior to the collision based on witness statements,” according to a report from MPD.

The driver of the Honda Ridgeline was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
