MIDLAND, Texas — Two people died in a Wednesday afternoon crash that also injured another person.
According to a Department of Public Safety report, around 3:19 p.m., a fatal crash occurred on Farm-to-Market 1788, and County Road 58. The driver of a 2018 Toyota Highlander was identified as Lazaro Rafael Reina Lenus, of Odessa, he had been traveling with two passengers.
DPS spokesperson Sgt. Steven Blanco said through the same report, Lenus' passengers Doria Hernandez, 37, of Odessa, and an infant were pronounced dead at the scene — both were not wearing a seatbelt. In the collision, the passengers of the SUV were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of a 2019 Freightliner James Craig Butler, 61 of Midland was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities also reported that the freightliner was traveling north on FM 1788, when the Toyota Highlander driven by Lenus failed to yield at the stop sign, this resulted in the Freightliner striking the Freelander.
This crash remains under investigation.
