Odessa fire chief provides update on Forrest Brothers Tire fire

According to Odessa Fire Rescue's investigation, the cause of the fire was found to be inconclusive.

ODESSA, Texas — NewsWest 9 spoke to Odessa Fire Chief Jason Cotton on Monday, Aug. 12, to get an update on Sunday's fire at Forrest Brothers Tire in Odessa.

According to the City of Odessa, Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the fire at 400 S. JBS Parkway Blvd at 5:13 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they saw some tires, plastic and cardboard that caught on fire. According to Chief Cotton, OFR kept the fire from spreading to the main building.

Chief Cotton said tires and equipment were damaged, but nobody was injured.

"Tires burn really hot and really black. They put off a lot of smoke for what they are," Chief Cotton said. "I do know that the amount of smoke that was put off by the fire was a lot more than what the fire looked like, it was not as big as what we're used to. But, they got the fire under control pretty quick, the smoke was up, and it was out pretty fast."

The fire took about 20 minutes to put out, according to Chief Cotton. However, firefighters stayed on the scene for about two hours.

According to OFR's investigation, the cause of the fire was found to be inconclusive.
