MIDLAND, Texas — Fix West Texas has been chosen to be a part of a research study.
The study will be conducted by Virginia Tech and PetSmart Charities.
In this study, Fix West Texas, PetSmart Charities and Virginia Tech plan to change the game in animal adoptions.
According to the news release from Fix West Texas, the study hopes to answer three questions:
Does offering a Doggy Day Camp for fostered shelter animals help dogs get adopted quicker?
Is it less stressful for the dog?
Does it make fostering more appealing for those reluctant to foster?
According to Fix West Texas, in this program they will "select adoptable dogs over 6 months of age and over 30lbs from Midland Animal Services."
The non-profit organization plans to spay/neuter and vaccinate dogs, and place each dog in a willing foster home.
The foster family would then drop off their foster dogs at Midland PetSmart for Doggy Day Camp around 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Fix West Texas said in the news release "we hope this will lead to quicker adoption times and free up the fosters to work, run errands, or do other activities during the day."
