Fly into Fall returns to Midland Airpark

City of Midland holds third annual Fly into Fall event at Midland Airpark.

MIDLAND, Texas —

The Midland Airpark was buzzing with activity Saturday from both people and airplanes because of Fly into Fall — now in its third year.

Midland Councilmember-at-large Robin Poole said the annual event is one "that kids can come out and experience aviation on a very hands-on level."

"We've got plenty of aircraft for, for everyone to look at. We've got jumpers, face painters, we've got simulators, drone obstacle course. There's really something for everybody," she told NewsWest 9.

But the event is about more than just people getting a chance to look at cool planes, helicopters, and other vehicles.

“It's a really exciting opportunity to really introduce the community to Airpark because Air Park is a gym in the center of our community. It's a hub of commerce, but with this event, we're able not only to focus on aviation but also aerospace and the expansion of the space port out at Midland International, it's just a thriving industry in Midland really wants to be at the forefront of its expansion.” Poole continued.

There was also a flight simulator, food trucks, face painting, jumpers, over 20 educational exhibitor tables, and more for visitors to enjoy. There were also special guests in attendance for people to hear stories from and interact with like former NASA astronaut Tony Antonelli, former U.S. Air Force pilot Aaron Kinsey, and others.

Midland may be known for its strong connection to the oil and gas industry, but the City of Midland hopes the younger generation sees a future working in the aviation industry in their city.

“We really want the next generation to know that the aviation and aerospace industries are thriving industries that they can absolutely have a career in. There's such a shortage in all the positions in aviation, from airplane mechanics to pilots. And it's just a really great career path that kids to take.” Poole added.
