Fort Stockton assault suspect arrested in Gaines County

One man will be facing charges following an assault in Fort Stockton on Wednesday.

FORT STOCKTON, TX (KWES) - One man will be facing charges following an assault in Fort Stockton on Wednesday.

Police said they were called out to the 300 block of W. Division St. in reference to a gun incident.

The report stated that responding officers were told there was a man with a gunshot wound.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man bleeding from several cuts and wounds.

The man was taken to an Odessa hospital but his condition is unknown at this point.

Authorities said an investigation revealed that Eric Portillo, 28, assaulted the man with a small handgun inside the vehicle that Portillo was driving.

We're told the vehicle Portillo was driving was later found and a search warrant was executed at a house on 51st Lane.

Police said an arrest warrant was later issued for Portillo.

The following day, police said, Portillo was arrested by the Seminole Police Department and Gaines County Sheriff's Office.

Portillo is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
