MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Shoppers in the Permian Basin are hitting their local malls returning that gift they may have received for Christmas. With that in mind, the Midland Park Mall opened their doors early and have been expecting this day for months.
Javier Loera, Director of Marketing for the Midland Park Mall, said, "We get started as early as late summer and getting plans ready and all kinds of stuff for our shoppers."
If you don't believe the day after Christmas was huge for the Midland Park Mall, all you had to do was look at the parking lot.
"We usually gauge it by the number of cars but we're definitely in the thousands for sure," said Loera.
With many shoppers coming to the mall, Loera added safety wasn't an issue.
"We have a comprehensive security plan we put into place in conjunction with the Sheriff's Office and our mall security," said Loera.
As shoppers continue to visit the mall, Loera said he expects it to remain busy.
"We're definitely looking at kind of the same traffic as we had last week with pre-Christmas shopping. I can't tell you how many are returns or actual purchases here today but there's definitely people walking out with bags and we always like to see that," said Loera.
The mall opened their doors at 9 a.m. on Monday and will open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Tuesday thru Friday.
