MIDLAND - The trial of a man accused in a bath salts shooting is over.

A jury found 23-year-old James Creech guilty of shooting a man and biting a police officer.

Now they're decided how long he'll spend in jail.

Jurors found Creech guilty on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of assault of a public servant.

It didn't take jurors very long to return that verdict. They deliberated for no more than 30 minutes.

Back in June, Creech was high on bath salts when he went to a neighbor's house and shot through the front door after ringing the door bell.

Steven Little was shot in the neck and a bullet grazed his head but he amazingly survived.

Officers caught up with Creech not long after that and he bit an officer's arm.

On Tuesday, NewsWest 9 heard testimony and saw Creech's interrogation video where he claimed to hear voices and see demons.

At times, he fell out of his chair.

Although Creech never admitted to being high on bath salts to law enforcement, his psychologist claimed Creech admitted to abusing the synthetic drug 24 hours before the shooting.

On Wednesday, during the punishment phase, testimony was heard from neighbors who say they saw Creech behaving erratically in the hours leading up to the shooting.

The defense called family friends to the stand who said Creech was a good, shy kid who never caused any trouble before.

The 23-year old also got emotional when his father took the stand.
