ODESSA, Texas —
A local barbecue place in Odessa, Brantley Creek Barbecue, got a chance to be featured on America's Best Restaurants (ABR).
America's Best Restaurants is a national media and marketing company focused on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants.
“It means a lot. It's kind of unreal to me. Still, even though we've had several people come through, it's a pretty amazing feeling for sure,” said Brandon McPherson, owner of Brantley Creek Barbecue.
“It's neat, it's exciting, it's nerve wracking. But ultimately, I love it for my husband, you know, he's succeeded with his business and so it's really neat to have that happen here in Odessa,” said Ashley McPherson, Brandon's wife.
ABR said the episode that was filmed will feature popular dishes being highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with the owners about the restaurant's history and relationship with the community.
“I'm just hoping you know those that don't know about us get to find out about us and learn how we are here and how we're a family environment, good food, good Texas barbecue," Brandon McPherson said. "And we treat you like family, we have a lot of hospitality here, and that's the main thing.”
So, what should you know if you plan on starting a business yourself with the help of your family?
“The best advice I can give is consistency and persistence," Brandon McPherson said. "Once you lose those two, everything else will fall off too. So that's part of the key to making something happen. I struggled for the first two years, I struggled to sell half a brisket, and now we're selling 65, 75 a day.”
The episode will be aired on ABR's and Brantley Creek Barbecue's social media channels at a later date.
