SAN ANGELO, TX (KWES) - Remembering friends and family, one Midland native and Navy veteran is joining Carry the Load on their march to Dallas.
Chris McLean, now living in San Angelo, joined the event in 2016 and has been a participant ever since.
"Veteran's day, you thank a veteran, you thank a service member. A memorial is just a way to honor," said McLean.
Carry the Load started in 2011, as a march in Dallas on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifices service men and women, first responders and veterans made, but has grown to across the East and West coast with two marches.
When crews reach San Angelo, McLean will join the West coast route, which started in Seattle, Washington.
McLean is excited for the routes to converge in Dallas on Memorial Day.
"You get out there with the comradery of everybody and hear people's stories," said McLean.
Most importantly McLean will remember his family and friends in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"I know my cousin still watches over [me] every day. I just keep the good thoughts and good memories with me," said McLean.
According to their schedule, Carry the Load is set to be in Monahans tomorrow morning, Odessa, Thursday evening, followed by Midland Friday morning.
