MIDLAND, Texas — Midland Mayor Lori Blong released a statement Thursday in regards to the Sundance Creek apartment residents who were impacted by the hostage situation:
“I want to thank Midlanders who have reached out to me to see what they can do regarding the hostage situation in our community. Also, the churches that are stepping up with ways to help those who are temporarily being displaced are a huge lift and a great way to help our fellow neighbors! We are currently coordinating with Midland County to coordinate assistance to those who are being displaced. This teamwork will go a long way in helping those that are being affected by this incident. Our police department is working with DPS, the FBI, and Odessa SWAT to continue the work of getting the hostages out of this situation unharmed. The suspect, Christian Milan, was brought into custody Friday morning after the over 24-hour hostage situation at the Sundance Creek apartments.
Following the arrest, Mayor Blong released the following statement:
"On behalf of the City of Midland and Midland City Council, I want to thank the following agencies for their response and support during the recent hostage and barricade situation at Sundance Creek Apartments.
To the Midland Police Department, Midland County Sheriff's Office, Odessa Police Department, Midland Fire Department, Texas DPS, and the FBI: Thank you for your professionalism, bravery, and dedication to protecting our community. Your coordinated efforts ensured the safety and security of our residents.
I also want to acknowledge the Horseshoe Arena, Midland County Emergency Coordination Team, American Red Cross, Target Hospitality, Shorty's Equipment Rental, EZ Rider, First Baptist Church, and Stonegate Fellowship, among others, who stood ready to engage their resources. Thank you for your support and willingness to provide resources, shelter, and assistance.
