McCamey city code enforcement officer gets 90 days probation after controversial social media post

McCamey residents are interpreting Kathy Campbell's post saying the "world almost a better place today," as a reference to the assassination attempt of Donald Trump.

MCCAMEY, Texas — In a City of McCamey special meeting on Friday, July 19, city council made the decision to give 90 days of probation to Kathy Campbell, the code enforcement officer for the city, after a controversial social media post.

In Campbell's post on Facebook, she said that the "world almost a better place today." At an unknown time later, she ended up deleting the post.

A lot of McCamey residents were outraged with the comment and interpreted it as a reference to Donald Trump almost being assassinated on Saturday, July 13.

When NewsWest 9 asked McCamey Mayor Pedro Rosales if it was a reference to the assassination attempt he said, "No it was not, that post was very vague it could've meant many of things and we as a council don't believe that's what she meant."

Campbell will also get 30 days no pay and will be taking social media classes and more.

For now, when it comes to dilapidated buildings or anything that requires the code enforcement officer, residents can take those concerns to City Hall located at East 6th St.
