MIDLAND, Texas — At the Super Mercado on North Big Spring Street in Midland, members of the community came out to put on a fundraiser for Alex Wise Jr.’s family.
“Well, I mean we just want to give back to the community, which was Alex Wise, you know. He had an accident, and we just want to give back to them so that they know they’re not left behind.” said Frankie "Spank" Juarez, one of the organizers.
The fundraiser included a car wash, car show, bake sale, and a barbecue. All the proceeds from the fundraiser go to Wise’s family.
This fundraiser started because Midland resident Frankie “Spank” Juarez and his friends posted on Facebook their intentions of putting on a fundraiser to help the family and it got the attention of Wise’s mother.
“Someone showed the post to the mom and then the mom reached out to us, and we talked to her, and she gave us permission to do this. We just don’t want to make her feel like she’s alone; we got kids as well, so we try to show love like how we would want someone to show love if it was our kids. We always help our community, it’s something we always do.” said EJ Gallindo, another organizer.
Even with all the pain still being felt by the recent tragedy...the organizers hope that this fundraiser shows that the community still has love to give to those most affected by it.
“At the end of the day, our children are our future. At the end of the day, I feel like just like the guys said it’s the love. Love conquers all.” said Junior Guevara, one of the organizers.
