Midland County approves partnership with Midland Animal Services

The partnership is being done through an interlocal agreement.

MIDLAND, Texas — A notable piece of action was taken Tuesday at Midland County Commissioners Court. Midland County commissioners approved a partnership with Midland Animal Services, which is being done through an interlocal agreement.

Midland County does not have its own shelter, so this gives them a place to take strays that they rescue.

The city will also be providing support to the county's dog-catcher.

"They are helping with training, which is very important -- not only to get her the certifications that she needs to do her job -- but also how to apprehend if you will the animals and how to take care of them in transportation; all those important things of taking care of animals when they're picked up," said Dianne Anderson, Midland County commissioner of Precinct 4.

The partnership also benefits the city with the amount of stray animals that are in the community.

"The city gets lots of calls about stray animals in the county, and so now they'll be able to direct that call to the county dog-catcher and say 'you've got a stray at such-and-such address' or 'you have a dead animal at such-an-such address' or whatever the issue is," Commissioner Anderson said.

As part of this agreement, Midland County will pay the city $20,000 annually to help with resources.
