MIDLAND, Texas — On Friday, May 10, the Midland County Commissioners gathered to discuss the steps that need to be taken to help with the flooding problems in the county.
Commissioners approved buying land just south of I-20, which has drainage issues.
The goal that the Commissioners have is to get the right of way to address the issue of where all the flooding is happening.
“There's areas that we can purchase to ensure that people are not filling these lakes in, these playas in or that they're not building on them,” said Luis Sanchez, Precinct 3 Commissioner. “The reason for that is whenever that occurs, that they're filled in or people build on it, it just floods the neighbors out and it just goes down the road. So, our dedication to Precinct 3 and South of I-20, is to make sure that the flooding doesn't happen again.”
Sanchez says this is just one way to address the flooding issues, but there is more to do.
Commissioners also approved a contract with the Midland County Fair, so it will be returning.
