MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The duck pond at Midland's Wadley Barron Park is feeling the effects of the recent drought.
The pond is currently low on water, with nothing but sand in some areas.
City crews will take part in a restoration project to repair some of the rocks and clean up the area. The fire department will then fill the ponds using water from fire hydrants that needs to be dumped as part of regular maintenance.
"There's a lot of natural habitation out there so we want to save the ducks out there and let that continue to be their home," said Mayor Jerry Morales.
"We want to make sure it's environmentally safe, and the bottom line is we want it to be attractive. It doesn't look good as it is right now."
Mayor Morales believes the projected should be completed within 30 days.
