MIDLAND, Texas — The City of Midland says a chemical spill happened on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
The Midland Fire Department HAZMAT team responded to assess the spill at I-20 between Lamesa Rd. and North Fairgrounds Rd.
After a further investigation, it was revealed that two semi-trucks traveled west on East I-20, and the truck in the left lane attempted a lane change, forcing the truck in the right lane to veer off the roadway.
Then, three chemical totes ruptured, causing the spill.
According to the City of Midland, the northside service road of I-20 between Lamesa Rd. and North Fairgrounds Rd was closed for several hours due to the cleanup.
One person was transported with minor injuries.
The incident is still under investigation and we will update this story once more information is provided.
