Midland first responders ringing bells just in time for the holiday season

The City of Midland is challenging the Midland Police Department and Midland Fire Department as part of the Red Kettle Campaign by the Salvation Army.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland Police Department are ringing in the holidays with the Midland Salvation Army.

As part of the Red Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army is always on the lookout for volunteers to help with their annual fundraiser.

On Thursday, the City of Midland kicked off their competition amongst first responders where MPD rang throughout the day. Midland Fire Department will also be doing this next Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Midland Market Street.

"Everything we get through the Red Kettle stays in Midland. Nothing goes outside of Midland," Mikell McLaughlin, Relations and Development Coordinator, said. "Everything we get from the Red Kettle in Midland stays in Midland, and it goes to help our neighbors in need. People think we just have the shelter that house the homeless and feed the homeless, but we do a lot of community-type stuff too. We have a food pantry for anyone in Midland County who needs a food box. We help with utility bills; we can help with that. So, we do a lot of other things than help and feed the homeless."

Also be sure to look out this weekend for some familiar faces.

Anchors Alex Cammarata and Jolina Okazaki will be ringing at the Walmart on Midland Drive from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Sunrise Anchor Victor Lopez, meteorologist Aurora Murray and the sunrise crew will be at Midland Park Mall on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
