MIDLAND, Texas — On Thursday, April 11, the Midland Police Department worked cleared and sealed the Vaughn Building in downtown Midland.
MPD’s effort is part of an on-going effort by the City of Midland to keep people from entering and residing in dangerous and run-down buildings across the city.
In March, the Midland City Council approved an ordinance that removes hurdles in securing substandard buildings. One outcome is the elimination of hotspots for crime.
MPD has stated that people are unlawfully entering run-down buildings like the Vaughn Building and are engaging in criminal activities.
On Thursday, the MPD went into the Vaughn Building to perform a sweep of the building. The building will be sealed to prevent homeless people and students from being able to enter the building in the future.
