MIDLAND, Texas — A suspect was taken into custody early Friday morning after an over 24-hour hostage situation at the Sundance Creek apartments. According to NewsWest 9 on scene, a suspect was seen being taken away in handcuffs and was told all hostages were unharmed.
The Midland Police Department arrived at the apartments at 11 p.m. late Wednesday night.
MPD Deputy Chief Greg Chatwell said Friday morning that MPD responded to Building 8 of the Sundance Creek apartments due to a domestic disturbance.
Chief Chatwell said the suspect was making threats to his girlfriend, which prompted MPD being called out.
Once officers arrived, MPD barricaded the Sundance Creek apartments as it turned into a hostage situation. Deputy Chief Chatwell said the girlfriend and her nine-year-old daughter were being held hostage inside.
Late Thursday night, law enforcement on scene heard gunshots from the apartment complex. Deputy Chief Chatwell did not say if that prompted law enforcement to go in.
Early Friday morning, law enforcement used an unknown tactic to get the suspect out and took him into custody. Chatwell said there were weapons inside the apartment.
The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Christian Armani Milan. Milan was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping sexual abuse.
Both the girlfriend and her daughter are unharmed and are being treated by medical personnel.
