MIDLAND, Texas — Thanksgiving is of course a time to be thankful. It's in the name after all.
The Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry helps the people in Midland give thanks with friends and family by serving up free meals every year.
But what is the ministry itself thankful for this year?
Well besides being thankful for the opportunity to feed the people of Midland, executive director Nancy Ivy says they're thankful to the founders of the ministry itself: her parents.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. 37 years ago, the Lord spoke to my father; to help the need here in Midland," said Ivy. "I would not be there if it wasn't for my parents. I'm very grateful and thankful that they left it up to me and my family to continue the legacy."
Even with higher inflation this year, Ivy says that wasn't enough to stop them from continuing their mission.
“On the daily we used to feed 80 people and now I’m feeding 130 daily," Ivy continued. "On Thanksgiving it used to be 600, now we’re feeding 800 and this year is not going to change that.”
They also know that the Midland community has their back no matter what and will continue to support it for as long as they can.
“Midland is very thoughtful on helping our community and our people in need. Always, always. They never let us down.” Ivy added.
