Midlander dies in Dawson County crash

DAWSON COUNTY, Texas — A Wednesday morning crash resulted in one death, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

Matilde Antonio Herrera-Gutierrez, 34, of Midland, died at the intersection of State Highway 137 and Farm-to-Market 828.

The preliminary information revealed that around 6:45 a.m., 45-year-old Matthew Christy of Lamesa, driving a Kenworth truck with a trailer,  was going southbound on SH 137.

Meanwhile, Herrera-Gutierrez was driving a Ford F-350 heading eastbound on FM 828.

Authorities say that Herrera-Gutierrez "disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of SH 137 and FM 828 and hit Christy."

Herrera-Gutierrez died at the scene and Christy was taken to UMC Hospital in Lubbock where he remains in serious condition.

The incident is still under investigation.
