Morning fire in Odessa leaves 19-year-old man with second-degree burns

A 19-year-old man sustained severe burns in Odessa after a fire occurred in the 9400 block of W. Westridge Dr. City of Odessa has "no word" on how the fire started.

ODESSA, Texas — Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a fire at 4:44 a.m. Sunday morning in the 9400 block of W. Westridge Dr., which left a man severely burned, the City of Odessa said in a media release.

According to the City of Odessa, a 19-year-old man sustained second-degree burns as a result of the early morning fire. The man has been transported to the hospital and his updated condition is unknown at this time.

The City of Odessa or OFR does not know how the fire started.

"With these chilly conditions, we want to remind you of some fire safety tips," the City of Odessa said in a statement. "Keep flammable items away from heaters, use a fireplace screen and never leave candles unattended to stay safe in cold weather."
