MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — On May 6, at 6:30 p.m., a collision involving three vehicles occurred at the intersection of FM 1788 and CR-140 in Midland County.
The vehicles involved were a 2018 Ford F-150, a 2024 Peterbilt 567 with a trailer and a 2020 Chevrolet 2500.
The crash occurred when the Ford F-150 attempted to pass the Peterbilt 567 on the right but collided with its front right side.
The F-150 then lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by the Chevrolet 2500.
The driver of the Ford F-150, 33-year-old Lorenzo Najera was pronounced dead at the scene.
32-year-old Brenda Guerrero, a passenger in the Ford F-150, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
Two minors (ages 10 and 3) were also passengers in the Ford F-150 and were reported to have minor injuries.
The driver of the Peterbilt 567, 34-year-old Jared Todd South was uninjured.
64-year-old Juan Diaz Veloz was the driver of the Chevrolet 2500, and sustained minor injuries and was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital.
This resulted in the F-150 catching fire and getting thrown off the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation.
