MIDLAND, Texas — Of all the locations where you can have a Nerf war, a library isn't exactly the first place that comes to mind.
The Midland County Centennial Library held a Nerf war today for kids ages 7 to 11 in the community.
The Nerf war is meant to not just be a fun activity for the kids but also as a means of celebrating Saint Patrick's Day early, as well as showcase the fun programs the library has to offer.
"You know, just because we have a lot of programs going on, I never think it's a bad thing to celebrate early. But also, just to make sure we get all these programs in here and make sure that teens and kids of all ages are able to do the programs we have available here at the library," said Kaitlynn Chick, library assistant at Centennial Library.
Chick feels that Nerf wars in particular are a very fun activity for kids of all ages and inspire engagement from the community.
"When I first started working in 2022, we had our first Nerf war, and that was my first big program that we did, and since then, I've been like, 'Let's do another Nerf war, let's do another Nerf war'. So anytime we have the opportunity to come up with an idea or program with a Nerf war, for example, the Saint Patrick's Day Nerf war, we use it," Chick continued.
The most important thing is that the kids have fun.
"Libraries are fun. We do fun programs too, and we want to welcome the kids in here; this is what we do. We want to welcome the teens in here and get the teens more involved," Chick added.
Chick says that there will be another Nerf war next Saturday evening for ages 12 and up, but this time the youth will have the entire library open for play.
