New Details Released Following Deadly Accident in Lea County

New Mexico State Police have released some new information regarding a deadly accident that took place in Lea County on Wednesday. Officials tell NewsWest 9, the accident happened just after 5:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 380 near mile post 202, which is between Roswell and Tatum.

LEA COUNTY, NM (KWES) - New Mexico State Police have released some new information regarding a deadly accident that took place in Lea County on Wednesday.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, the accident happened just after 5:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 380 near mile post 202, which is between Roswell and Tatum.

According to the report, an initial investigation revealed a gray Ford pickup was traveling west on U.S. Highway 380 when the driver drove the vehicle into the eastbound lane, colliding with a semi tractor-trailer and a passenger car.

We're told as a result of the collision, the Ford pickup and passenger car burst into flames.

The drivers of the pickup truck and passenger car were pronounced dead at the scene, however, their identities haven't been released yet as the bodies have been taken to be identified.

The driver of the semi tractor-trailer wasn't injured.
