New Fire Station for Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department services a large area, but at the current station, there's just not enough space for all of their needed equipment and supplies. That's why a new fire station is in the works.

GREENWOOD, TX (KWES) - The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department services a large area, but at the current station, there's just not enough space for all of their needed equipment and supplies. That's why a new fire station is in the works.

"It really got kicked off when one of the local farmers donated the land. That was the big thing right there. Just getting the land," said John Baumann, Chief for the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department.

They say they've needed a new fire station for awhile.

"In the last four or five years we've probably more than doubled the houses out here," said Baumann.

They say more people moving into Greenwood has increased their demand, and now they've outgrown their current station.

"This station just physically doesn't fit our vehicles so it's been an ongoing effort," said Baumann.

There's no space for their emergency vehicles and all of their equipment. Another big factor is there current location.

"If we can get out of this area right here and out on the highway it will speed up our response time," said Baumann.

A new fire station is now in the works thanks to that generous local farmer who donated the land.
