ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — In reference to the June 25 Gardendale crash, a 16-year-old died at a hospital on Sunday while in serious condition due to injuries sustained in the crash, according to the City of Odessa. A boxing coach for Gorilla Heavy Hitters was the one to let the city know.
According to Texas DPS, the crash happened on Tuesday, June 25 at about 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of FM 554 and Cottonwood Road.
A Chevrolet 1500 was driving west on Cottonwood Road towards the intersection of FM 554. A GMC Acadia was driving north on FM 554 towards the same intersection.
The Acadia then proceeded through the stop intersection. The Chevrolet 1500, according to the report, disregarded "an official traffic control device" and hit the Acadia on the right-hand side.
An 11-year-old boy was in the Acadia and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The driver, a 61-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. Three other passengers, two being minors, all sustained serious injuries. One of the minors, being a 16-year-old boy, died on Sunday.
