ODESSA, Texas — Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at the Southwest Oaks Apartments, located in the 4600 block of Oakwood, Wednesday morning.
The fire was located in the kitchen or living room area.
“Approximately at 7:30 this morning, dispatch was sent out to Southwest Oaks Apartments for a working structure fire," said Odessa Fire Division Captain Rocky Juarez. "The first arriving unit arrived on the scene and reported that they do have a working fire. The fire seems to be contained to the first floor unit, so they got in there and extinguished it fairly quickly.”
The fire was kept on the first floor unit, but smoke still reached the second level of the apartment.
Juarez said it was the swift response from his men that took care of the fire so quickly.
“[It was] pretty standard," said Juarez. "Guys went in there, knocked the fire down, good job by the guys to get on scene to get the fire extinguished fairly quickly. No obstacles, nothing out of the ordinary.”
Three people were left displaced because of the fire, but the Red Cross has already stepped in and is helping get them temporary housing.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
