ODESSA, Texas —
The Patrick’s Promise Foundation and Odessa Regional Medical Center (ODMC) teamed up for a butterfly release at Progressive Park in remembrance for parents who have experienced the loss of a child.
Adrian and Becky Martinez, the founders of the Patrick’s Promise Foundation, know firsthand what it’s like to experience such a loss.
“So, in 2019, we went through our own personal loss. We lost our son Patrick. He was still born at 30 weeks, and we delivered him here at this hospital or and see. I was working here at the time and they're wonderful family to us and I was so happy to be able to deliver in here. So, after his loss they provided wonderful resources and other resources to organizations. But after some time, we felt like we wanted to also give back to our community here in the, in Odessa and throughout the Permian Basin," Becky Martinez said.
That desire to give back turned into them providing all sorts of aid to families like them through their non-profit.
“Our goal is to provide carrying cradles which are cooling clots for newborn or infants that have been lost so families are able to spend more time with their infants and we're also trying to provide financial assistance to those families so that they are able to pay off medical bills and seek out therapy if needed. So that's our main goal through Patrick's Promise Foundation.” Martinez said.
Through their work, the hope is that these families can better navigate through the pain of losing their child with others who understand what it’s like.
“What this means to us as well is it lets us know that we're not alone, and that this community is not alone, that we're walking in this together. We know that this loss is hard, and whether it's a new loss or you've been walking through it, just know that that you're not alone, that you have a community here that supports you, a wonderful hospital that puts on events like this that are here to walk with you through this.” Adrian Martinez said.
